How can we get the 17th amendment repealed?

Brian Lenney's avatar

Get 2/3 of both houses of Congress to propose it, OR get 34 state legislatures to call a Convention of States. So, will likely NEVER happen.

I believe many thought Roe v Wade would never be overturned.

20 states have signed onto a convention of states effort for term limits, fiscal accountability and reining in federal overreach. I believe it's possible to for 34 state legislatures to sign another application calling for an Article V amending convention for the purpose of repealing the 17th amendment.

But I do agree with the "never" aspect of expecting 2/3rds of current US congressman to willfully pass a proposed amendment that reduces their power. That's just human nature. I'm hoping state legislators will find the spine to stand up to the Federal government and fight for the rights of their citizens. I believe you, Senator Lenney, are one of those state legislators with the spine to make it happen. Who else do we have?

What ever happened to local and state sovereignty? Many of Idaho's representatives (federal, state, local) have forgotten our roots as a constitutional republic. Doesn't matter whether they have R or D label; they've simply forgotten -- or ignored for their own purposes -- the beautiful country and documents our founders bequeathed us.

As you said, either no one reads these bills (likely) or no one cares (also likely).

Idaho's Republican state legislators passed similar legislation (assuming we understand your post and the bills correctly). We asked them to reconsider before passing these bills, in Substack notes and emails. They didn't. The bills passed.

Also, Unelected Chambers of Congress are flooding Idaho with foreigners, working with businesses, like Walmart to employ them...stealing jobs from natural-born citizens! Time for full audit and defunding Chambers of Congress NOW! All Unelected Beurocrases receiving taxpayer funds must be audited on an annual basis and lose funding, depending on audit and regulations! Stop the theft of taxpayer funds NOW! HOLD YOUR REPRESENTATIVES ACCOUNTABLE!

Time to return to our founders ideals. All public servants must be tested in Western civics, State and Constitutional laws before entering public service jobs and tested annually to hold office. No foreigner or dual citizenship allowed in public service jobs. All public servants paid per diem, only paid when servants show up and actually work. No taxpayer-funded healthcare or pensions! Term limits set for public servant jobs... Not a nursing home for career politicians!

They love their prestige and want to keep it so they must answer to their donors. By the way, Russ Fulcher is in favor of the invaders remaining except if they commit a crime. Mr. Nice &Dapper Looking isn’t a warrior and therefore cannot comprehend the threat properly.

This is an excellent example of why I stopped voting for those clowns several years ago--not that I don't give them advice from time to time.

Unfortunately, they are the only clowns in town. They never listen to OUR advice either.

I watched several bills in the Idaho legislature this past session that did so much damage to communities. Some did not pass, others did after some modification. As much as I dislike HOA’s, they offer some protection for keeping certain types of homes out of a community. Redman’s JOA bill would destroy this completely. Especially in areas where tourism is already hurting housing. This bill at the federal level is one more slap in the face.
