From Brian to Pete RE: The Death of the West
A letter of concern from one Christian man to another
To the staffer reading this right now: Yes, you - the one with the cold coffee and the inbox showing 247 unread. I know you’re deciding whether to forward this up the chain or archive it so you can finally eat lunch. I’m asking you to pass this along to Pete. This is from an actual state senator who actually wants an actual conversation about an actual problem in Idaho. Please don’t let this die in your digital graveyard next to the guy demanding declassification of what the Illuminati is hiding in Antarctica and the lady who’s convinced the Rothschilds are using satellite mind control to manipulate the stock market from their underground bunker beneath Denver International Airport.
To Pete, if this actually got to you: What’s happening in Idaho matters, and I genuinely want to understand just what we’re doing here with this Qatari thing.
Dear Pete,
I’m writing to you not as a politician crafting another “strongly worded letter” that will never make it past your staff, destined to collect dust in some filing system while serving no purpose except letting the author feel like they did something.
We both know that game, right?
Some legislator fires off an indignant letter they know won’t be read, then lets everyone know they DEMANDED answers from Washington. “I will NOT stand for this!” Right. You demanded nothing. You sent a PDF into the void and then posted it on social media for head pats.
So, the irony that I’m also writing this is not lost on me.
But Pete, this is different.
I’m not writing as politician to politician. I’m writing as one Christian man to another. Brother to brother. Man to man. Because this deserves a real conversation, not performative outrage for the clicks.
We’re bringing nearly 300 (?) military-aged men from a nation that practices Islamic Sharia law onto American soil. Pat Buchanan warned us about this exact moment. He wrote “The Death of the West” and predicted we’d commit cultural suicide by importing incompatible ideologies and calling it “progress.” He said we’d celebrate our own demographic and cultural replacement while refusing to defend the civilization our fathers built. They destroyed him for telling the truth. And now here we are, importing Sharia law to Idaho and calling it a “strategic partnership.”
I need you to understand what Sharia actually does to human beings and why it is fundamentally, completely, and eternally incompatible with everything the West stands for.
Sharia law orders the stoning of women accused of adultery
It mandates genital mutilation of young girls
It prescribes death for apostasy, for simply choosing to leave Islam
It treats women as property requiring male permission for basic life decisions
It executes homosexuals
It establishes religious law as superior to civil law, making equality under the law impossible by design
Pete, let me be brutally specific about where these men are coming from:
If you and I tried to live out our Christian faith in Qatar, we’d face up to seven years in prison for “offending” Islam. Seven years. For sharing the gospel with a Muslim, we’d get five years imprisonment for proselytizing. Even possessing a Bible study guide or Christian book that “promotes missionary activity” would get us two years in prison and a fine. During Ramadan, if we ate lunch in public during daylight hours, we’d face a fine of $800, three months in prison, or both. For eating lunch.
Where these men come from, our children would be legally required to take Islamic instruction in school. You couldn’t have a home Bible study. You couldn’t meet in a house church. The government monitors and censors your emails, and your internet usage, your social media posts for “objectionable religious content” (Christians practice constant self-censorship out of fear).
This is the system these men live under every single day. This is what they enforce in their country. This is what they believe should govern human society.
This is the worldview they’re bringing to Mountain Home, Idaho.
And you’re telling Idaho families this is fine?
There is no “moderate” Sharia. There is no “reformed” Sharia. There is no version of Sharia that recognizes the First Amendment, equal protection, due process, or basic human rights as we understand them. It rejects religious freedom. It rejects freedom of speech. It rejects the entire foundation of Western civilization.
Sharia is not compatible with the Constitution.
It’s not compatible with individual liberty, women’s rights, religious tolerance, and is fundamentally hostile to every principle our republic was built upon.
Look at every nation where Sharia is enforced. Women are subjugated. Religious minorities are persecuted. Dissenters are imprisoned or killed. Freedom dies wherever Sharia takes root because freedom cannot coexist with a system that demands total submission to religious law.
We’ve watched this happen across Europe with London neighborhoods operating under informal Sharia law. Paris suburbs turned into no-go zones. Swedish cities transformed by gang violence and Islamic radicalism. Buchanan warned us we’d see the same playbook in America. Islamist enclaves fusing with radical political movements. Nations requiring shared values, language, culture, and history to survive. When diversity becomes the highest value, the nation dissolves.
And we’re importing this to Idaho?
We’re looking to house men who live under this system, who enforce this system, who believe this system should govern all of human society? Men from a country where the royal family has taken religious oaths to the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization explicitly committed to destroying Western democracy?
This is civilizational suicide dressed up as partnership.
Qatar’s poured over $100 billion into American universities, funding the very professors and programs that turned our campuses into anti-American cesspools. President Trump himself said in 2017 that Qatar “has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level.”
Was he wrong then, or are we wrong now?
Pete, let me paint you a picture…
Imagine close to 300 military-aged men who believe in Sharia law walking around Mountain Home, Idaho. Shopping at the local grocery store. Eating at local restaurants. Living in the community. What happens when one (or more) goes AWOL? We’ve seen foreign military trainees disappear before. Got-aways who vanish into the American interior.
And what about Pensacola?
Remember Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani? A Saudi national we welcomed, trained, and hosted at Naval Air Station Pensacola who murdered three American service members on U.S. soil in December 2019.
We imported him. We trained him. And he killed Americans.
So I’m asking you directly: would you feel comfortable living in this environment with your beautiful family? Would you want your wife and children in a community with nearly 300 men raised under a legal system that treats women as property?
Most Americans would not.
Our faith calls us to wisdom, discernment, and protection of the flock. Proverbs warns us repeatedly about the company we keep, about making covenants with those who hate what we love.
As Christian men in positions of authority, we’re accountable not just for what we do, but for what we allow. So I’m asking you, Pete, man to man, Christian to Christian: what are we doing here?
How do we justify importing a system that is diametrically opposed to Western civilization? How do we defend housing hundreds of men who were raised under a system that seeks to destroy everything we claim to defend?
How do we explain to our children that we saw the death of the West coming and did nothing to stop it?
If we can’t say no to a country that practices Sharia law, that funds terrorism, that shelters Hamas, that has corrupted our universities with billions in influence money, then we’ve already surrendered.
You’re seeking to import the very ideology our servicemembers have fought and died opposing because you’ve trapped yourself in a strategic dependency.
Our governor was caught off guard by this.
Our entire congressional delegation was caught off guard.
It looks like the entire state legislature was caught off guard.
Nobody in Idaho asked for this. Nobody in Idaho state leadership approved this. And most of us don’t want it. I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you directly. This issue deserves honest conversation between men who take their faith seriously and understand the weight of the decisions we make.
I’m praying for you, for President Trump, and for wisdom in this matter.
In Christ,
Brian Lenney
Idaho State Senator, District 13

This is a brilliant letter, Senator Lenney. Thank you so very much for saying in no uncertain terms what needs to be said and thoroughly understood. Your Substack posts on this matter have been beyond convincing!
Please, if you haven‘t done so already, send this letter in print and email format to every elected official in Idaho (all branches; paper copies at least to leadership), to Idaho’s federal legislators (Fulcher, Risch, Crapo, SImpson, registered mail), to Pete Hegseth (registered mail), to Trump (registered mail). Call Hegseth’s office and speak directly to a staffer. Same with Trump’s office. Same with Idaho’s federal reps.
This camel should NOT get its nose into the tent; this issue should NOT get swept under the carpet!
Stopping importation of foreign Sharia-supporting military nationals is the RIGHT hill to defend, before Sharia Law takes over Idaho, as it has so many cities in the US and countries in Europe.
Allowing foreign warrior training here is what happens when milquetoast tolerance replaces common sense and open borders and population replacement upend our constitutional underpinnings, founding principles, and national sovereignty.
We support your fight.
I want so badly to trust Hegseth and Trump on this! But how can any authentic, traditional, Constitutionalist, Christian Conservative, M.A.G.A. patriot argue with a single word you’ve written here, Senator?
The reality is, we can’t. We have no business letting ANY Muslim Theocracy’s military anywhere near us, ever.
