The recent Wilder, Idaho raid that nabbed 105 illegal aliens at an illegal gambling operation has unleashed the predictable wave of gaslighting from the left.

“Government overreach!”

“Innocent families!”

“Children were traumatized!”¹

But here’s what they refuse to discuss: the mountain of federal crimes these “innocent” people commit just by living here illegally.

While unlawful presence itself is technically a civil matter, the moment someone decides to build a life in America without authorization, they enter a world of cascading criminal violations that touch every aspect of daily existence.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

Cross the border illegally and you’ve committed a federal misdemeanor under 8 U.S.C. § 1325.

Get deported and return is a felony under § 1326 with penalties up to twenty years if your criminal record is extensive enough.

To hold a job in America, you need a Social Security number (ish). Since illegal aliens can’t legally obtain one, an estimated seventy-five percent resort to using numbers that belong to someone else (identity theft under 42 U.S.C. § 408, another felony).

The human cost is staggering…

Millions of Americans open their mail to discover wages they never earned, debts they never incurred, and benefits claimed under their stolen identities. Meanwhile, the thief is somewhere else, cashing paychecks under a name that isn’t theirs.

The Document Mill

Supporting this system requires an entire infrastructure of fraudulent documents. Fake green cards, fake visas, fake birth certificates, and fake Social Security cards flow through criminal networks nationwide.

18 U.S.C. § 1546 makes each of these forgeries a felony carrying ten to twenty-five years. ICE raids routinely collect hundreds of these documents in single operations. The criminal organizations that produce them face additional conspiracy charges adding five to ten years.

Now what about the “Parents of the Year” living here illegally?

School enrollment requires documentation and often Social Security numbers or Taxpayer Identification Numbers obtained through false statements about legal status. Medicaid applications for children involve similar lies about eligibility and status. Tax filings to claim child tax credits require TINs obtained by lying about immigration status on federal forms.

Each of these constitutes mail fraud, wire fraud, or benefits fraud under 18 U.S.C. §§ 1341 and 1343, adding more felonies to the pile.

There’s even an entire industry that coaches pregnant women to lie on visa applications, having them swear under oath that they’re visiting America for brief tourism while actually planning to give birth here (and under current court orders, the child still receives U.S. citizenship). But the mother’s lie on her visa application creates a permanent legal bar to future immigration benefits under immigration law, even if she later marries a U.S. citizen. Oh, and, the visa fraud also constitutes a felony offense.

The American Cost

These aren’t victimless crimes...

American citizens foot the tax bills for services they’re not receiving. Victims of identity theft lose benefits and watch their credit scores collapse. The integrity of federal programs gets undermined. Law enforcement resources get diverted to process fraudulent documents.

Yet, despite this mountain of evidence, we’re told “they’re not committing crimes.”

This is industrial-scale gaslighting of the American people. The law is clear. The violations are documented. The victims are real.

The path forward requires acknowledging reality.

Deport them. Prosecute every felony. Seal the border.
